2Papiamentu is actually Curaçao’s ‘official’ language. This is even more of a mixed bag of words and pronunciations of Dutch, English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish!

 

 

3Curaçao consists of two islands; one main island which is habited and one smaller island, called Klein Curaçao which is an inhabited island.

 

 

4The blue in the flag symbolizes the blue sky and the sea that surrounds the island. The yellow and in the middle represents the sun. The large star stands for Curaçao and the small star for the island Klein Curaçao.

 

 

5Curaçao its capital is Willemstad. The island was conquered by the Dutch in 1634. The city, Willemstad, was then named after the Dutch governor Willem II van Oranje.

 

 

6The lowest temperature ever measured on Curaçao is 19.7 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit).

 

 

7The buildings and houses are painted in different color as the white was very reflective and bad for the eye.
