Williwood

Williwood: a unique village with humor and charm.

Just 12 miles northwest of Willemstad lies the small village of St. Willibrordus. Named after the missionary Willibrord, it is known for its striking 1880s church, which still stands proudly above the greenery - and is still in use.

But this quiet spot on Curacao has undergone a surprising transformation in recent years. What began as a joke grew into a local phenomenon. The residents placed a large sign similar to the familiar “Hollywood” sign - but with the name “Williwood.” In the middle of the landscape, hard to miss, it immediately attracted attention. So much so, that the village officially adopted the name “Williwood.” Since then, residents have proudly called themselves “Williwoodians.”

Around Williwood you will find several fun sights:

  • The flamingo reserve, where you can admire these elegant birds in the wild
  • Landhuis Jan Kok, a historic plantation with art gallery
  • The beautiful beaches of Porto Mari and Daaibooi, perfect for swimming or snorkeling
  • And of course “Toko Williwood,” the heart of the community

At Toko Williwood you can enjoy local dishes on the cozy terrace. It is also where the famous “Williburger” - a goat burger - originated. Look for the goat-shaped barbecue as a landmark. You can buy fun souvenirs with the “Williwood” theme in the little store next to the toko.

Williwood is a village with a wink, but also with a warm heart. A must-visit during your stay in Curacao!
